So Happy, dat ben ik. Mara. Als klein meisje werd ik verliefd op alle kleuren en vormen uit mijn vaders pen. Ik pikte zijn inkt en stiften, hij leerde mij alles over het vak. Ons vak. Les nummer één: volg je hart. En dat is precies wat ik nu doe…illustraties maken waar je blij van wordt!

Voor mij begint het maken van een illustratie met het verhaal. Welk verhaal wil je vertellen? Welk gevoel wil je oproepen? Een kinderboek is niet zomaar een boek, maar een middel om een kind iets te leren. Of om de band tussen ouders en kind te versterken. Door samen te lezen, lachen en praten. Een stof met vrolijke print voor het slaapzakje van jouw baby. Het brengt je een lach op je gezicht, elke keer als jij je kleintje in bed legt. Begrijp je wat ik bedoel? Een ontwerp of product krijgt pas waarde door de betekenis die je eraan geeft.

Illustraties en ontwerpen maken voor kinderen is mijn specialiteit. Vrolijk, kleurrijk, liefst met een dosis humor. Een lach op je gezicht. Een goed gesprek. Een steuntje in de rug. Iets nieuws om te leren. Geluk delen en mooie momenten vieren. Daar helpt So Happy graag bij. Met liefde maak ik een ontwerp of illustratie voor jouw bedrijf.

So Happy, that’s me. Mara. As a little girl, I fell in love with all the colours and shapes that came from my father’s pen. I stole his ink and pens, and he taught me all about illustration. Our profession. Lesson number one: follow your heart. And that’s exactly what I’m doing now. Creating illustrations that make you happy!

For me, every illustration starts with a story. What story do you want to tell? What feeling do you want to evoke? A children’s book is not just a book, it’s a way to teach a child something. Or to strengthen the bond between parent and child. By reading, laughing and talking together. A fabric with a cheerful print on your baby’s sleeping bag. It puts a smile on your face every time you put your little one to bed. You know what I mean, don’t you? A design or product becomes significant when you attach personal meaning to it.

Creating illustrations and designs for children is my specialty. Cheerful, colourful and preferably with a good dose of humour. A smile on your face. An enjoyable conversation. A helping hand.
